BIRD GATHERING BAN LIFTED

Tracing and testing on birds that passed through Chelford Market on Monday 7 May 2007 is continuing but to date, no further outbreaks or evidence of H7N2 Avian influenza virus in Wales or England has been found.

Following an assessment of risk, Chief Veterinary Officer, Debby Reynolds has lifted the temporary ban on chickens and ducks attending bird gatherings, bird shows and bird auctions. Turkeys and geese were not included in the ban, which was revoked on Friday 1 June 2007.

These events may now take place but subject to biosecurity, notification and record-keeping requirements of the general licence for such activities.
