He pulled up and saw that it was a day old chick, the wet
shivering chick was scooped up and brought home to myself. To be
honest at that time I had never seen a turkey poult so did not know
what kind of bird it was, although it looked like some kind of
domestic poultry.
The youngster was warmed up then taken to a broody hybrid hen at
my mothers house.
The hen accepted it with glee and she brought it up until it was
much bigger than her.
The turkey was found a home at a children's farm park on the outskirts
of Lincoln, he lived the rest of his life in a warm pen with outside
access.
He was a white commercial bird. We will never know how he came to be
sitting on the roadside, although I bet he thanked his lucky stars my
husband came along when he did.
5 more minutes and he would have been lunch for those jackdaws.
A Spencer
